Migrations to 11ac are expected to happen throughout 2014 and 2015 with the transition moving faster than any previous WiFi technology
Our generation cut the cord year ago… we then adopted a semi-mobile nomadic behavior with laptops and early gen. smart phones but were always aware of our beloved “wired” connection which was always within reach for emergencies. Now we live unplugged and fully expect to be unplugged all the time and any exception to this is well… a frustration that we are not willing to cope with.
This year BYOD is again pushing the limits with new smart devices like Google Glass and Smart Watches. WiFi is no longer a convenience and networks need to be always on and open. Luckily we have new technologies like 802.11ac to support growing densities of devices. 802.11ac supports a 1.3Gbps throughput up from 450Mbps with 802.11n. In addition, Meru’s solution is seeing a 30%+ throughput increase for existing 11n client devices. This is providing immediate benefits to our clients while future-proofing client networks for growing density demands.
Migrations to 11ac are expected to happen through 2014 and 2015 with the transition moving faster than any previous WiFi technology. 11ac longevity is estimated to be about 6 years resulting in 11ac TCO to be a fraction of 11n if purchased today. With mobile traffic expected to grow 66% over the next 5 years and app. proliferation happening on all platforms, now is as good a time as ever to start planning and making the switch to 11ac which is why our clients have started to do the same.
